Preparing for the Arrival of Your Little One with Essential Oils

Congratulations on expanding your family!! I am so excited to share with you how essential oils can support you at this exciting time!! I have been so lucky to have essential oils by my side when I delivered my last two babies. They can be used to uplift your emotions, bring positivity to experiences, promote health, and for many other things - before, during, and after birth!

One question I get asked often is, “Is it safe to use essential oils during pregnancy?” Yes, it is. However, it is always important to consult with your doctor or midwife before use, but essential oils, on the whole are safe. The one thing that is important to remember is that because of the hormonal changes in the body, some women may be more sensitive to some oils than others. I always recommend you dilute oils and use them topically.

It is of the utmost importance to make sure your oils are clean and non-toxic, so that is why I was comfortable using doTERRA throughout. I would love to share a few oils that I leaned into throughout my pregnancy. The ones that I believe are must-haves for the birthing mother for common issues that arise.

Sleep Support

Sleep is so important, and we know how hard it is to get good rest when growing a tiny human! My top two: Frankincense and Lavender - Both oils are grounding, relaxing, soothing, and helping to calm all the emotions. Two drops of each in a diffuser at bedtime or a custom roller blended with each oil is ideal.

Pro Tip - 10 drops Frankincense and Lavender in a 10 ml roller bottle topped with Fractionated Coconut Oil and applied to the bottoms of feet at bedtime.

Digestive Discomfort

Many women experience varying degrees of digestive discomfort in the first trimester and throughout. My go-to digestive oils are Cardamom, Ginger, Peppermint, DigestZen, and Fennel. DoTERRA’s Ginger Drops were a lifesaver. Digestzen or peppermint diluted on the bottoms of my feet or a roller with all of the above diluted. In addition, Cardamom is a wonderfully mild essential oil, and my first choice for little ones for digestive issues.

Pro Tip - A drop of cardamom behind your ears at nighttime!

Laboring Mother Diffuser Blend

My best tip for the laboring mama is to diffuse Wild Orange and Balance while laboring. I felt grounded and found new levels of confidence as I entered a time that can bring on many anxious feelings. Lastly, Rose is a high vibe oil and the aroma is so calming and uplifting.

Pro Tip - I diffused this in these in the delivery room as my choice to welcome our new little ones to the world.

Perineum Spray: A Frankincense and Lavender combination was my go-to Peri Spray when I was pregnant. I believe every pregnant mama needs this in her hospital bag! Also, great for supporting the skin of your little ones!

Pro Tip - 10 drops of Frankincense, Lavender, and Helichrysum (optional), in a spray bottle with a carrier oil, such as Fractionated Coconut Oil.

I have been so lucky to have natural solutions at my fingertips during pregnancy and beyond. My children have grown to love their oils and teaching my own children gives them a wonderful sense of empowerment. Using essential oils has been life-changing for my whole family and I love teaching others how exciting and easy it is to switch to a non-toxic, natural way of living!
